Navigating Life’s Challenges: The Power of The Pause

The world is loud right now and for the past few weeks I’m seeing in my clientele specific patterns; feelings of frustration, overwhelm and plain old chaos.

While spiraling through these emotions it’s nearly impossible to trust ourselves to make a new decision, change our perspective or take back our power. We can all relate personally to times where we reacted hastily before thinking something through, before gathering all the facts, before allowing another to finish their sentence. Knee jerk reactions to what is going on around us tend to make matters, and emotions, worse.

So let us begin with what is in our power during these loud times.

Our super power is that we have the capacity to choose how we respond to feelings of frustration, overwhelm and chaos. Easy enough to say (or type 😉 but how, exactly, does one take back one’s power?

The Power of The Pause

Within each of us lies an unshakable light—a guiding force of wisdom, resilience, and courage. Yet during times of overwhelm and chaos we lose sight of these inner forces because we find ourselves in hyper-reactionary mode. Things feel so loud and fast that we lose our footing, our patience, our self control and tend to lash out at the world and people around us.

By using the ‘Power of the Pause’ we give ourselves a moment to take a breath, or two. To take a step back, literally or figuratively. Give space between what just set us off, or triggered us, and our response to it. In this pause we have a space to choose how to react or, if to react at all.

This is how we gain our power back over a situation; we choose whether to give it our energy, or not to give it our energy. Remember that where our attention goes our energy flows. So in that pause we have given ourselves the space to choose and it is in our choice where we regain our power. Rather than being pulled by our emotions, we take that pause and choose to emote or not to emote.

We can map out this process by understanding that; thoughts create feelings, feelings conjure emotions, and emotions shape our behaviors. So you see, when we are in ‘reactionary mode’ to our surroundings (people, places, things) we probably already have an opinion of what is going to happen or what is going to be said and, therefore, our reactions are on auto-pilot.

The Power of Perspective

The power of perspective cannot be overemphasized when working to gain back your power. Dr. Joe Dispenza outlines in his teachings (brain-heart coherence) that our brains cannot tell the difference between reality and an imagined event. This is incredibly helpful to us as we learn to gain self-awareness and mindfulness in order to take back our power.

Why? Because when we realize that our brain may be responding to something that isn’t even real, well, that right there gives us reason to pause.

The power of perspective is like a magic elixir. When we find ourselves in a negative loop of frustration and overwhelm we have the capacity to take a pause and choose our reaction. That choice may come in the realization that a change of perspective is needed in order to effectively use the Power of the Pause.

Although not always immediately visible, challenges often carry hidden gifts we can only find within that present moment of a powerful pause. When we shift our perspective from ‘Why is this happening to me?’ to ‘What is this teaching me?’, we unlock profound growth. Every difficulty holds an opportunity to deepen our understanding, strengthen our character, and create a new way forward.

Simple Techniques to Help Change Your Perspective:

  • Mindful Reflection: Journaling your thoughts and emotions can help you process and gain clarity on the situation around you.
  • Grounding Rituals: Simple acts like deep breathing, meditating, or walking in nature reconnect you with your inner balance.
  • Community & Connection: Surround yourself with uplifting people who remind you of your strength and potential.

Once you regain clarity, inner-balance and a sense of hope you feel stronger and therefore, empowered.

I invite you to explore deepening your spiritual practices beyond the simple techniques above into advanced intuitive tools for self-empowerment.

Advanced Intuitive Tools Toward Your Empowerment:

  • Use Strong Emotional Boundaries: Not all emotions you feel are yours. Before reacting, pause and ask, Is this mine? If not, visualize sending it back to the other’s higher self with love. You don’t even need to know whose emotions you are feeling—your higher self will take care of that.
  • Call in Your Spirit Guides, Guardian Angels, and Nature Helpers: They are here to support you through all that is going on. Invite them in to your space and trust the guidance that comes.
  • Vibrational Alignment: Instead of trying to “fix” what feels off, attune yourself to a higher frequency first. Visualize the energy of peace, clarity, or love vibrating then consciously match it—like tuning a radio. Your external reality will begin to realign with that frequency.
  • Stay in Gratitude: Gratitude is an energy stabilizer. It anchors positivity. Find one thing, no matter how small, that brings warmth to your heart. Speak it, feel it, let it expand. Gratitude shifts your frequency instantly, making you more receptive to guidance, solutions, and peace.
  • Call in Your Future Self: Instead of being swept up in fear of the future, call in a version of you from the future. A version filled with peace and grace. Ask them for guidance and trust your intuition.
  • Withdraw Intentionally: Sometimes, the most intuitive act is to step back. Create intentional spaces free from external noise. Stillness is not avoidance—it’s an act of power.
